The world’s largest cylindrical aquarium inside a Berlin hotel exploded this morning, spewing debris and hundreds of thousands of gallons of water. Two people were injured by glass fragments from the explosion of the aquarium.
More than 100 firefighters and rescuers rushed to the complex which includes the Radisson hotel, a museum, shops and restaurants as well as the DomAquaree aquarium.
The DomAquaree is the world’s largest cylindrical free-standing aquarium with a height of 14 meters , which housed 1,500 exotic fish from 100 different species , in one million liters of water which was poured into the surrounding streets.
A spokesman for the Berlin fire department said it was not yet clear what caused the aquarium to explode , while no one provided information on the fate of the fish.
However, the material damage is enormous and the material posted on social media shortly after the explosion speaks for itself.

Emergency services closed a major road next to the complex leading from Alexanderplatz to the Brandenburg Gate due to the large volume of water that had flooded the building.
Berlin police sent buses to the complex to offer shelter to the hotel’s 350 or so occupants, who had to leave as the city is now freezing cold at -7 degrees Celsius.
