Overwatch 2: Huge outcry and review bombing on Metacritic

A lot of problems for Blizzard’s title

Blizzard seems to be going from blunder to blunder, as once again a new release manages to record a negative user score on Metacritic.

Going into details, Overwatch 2 is available for free starting October 4 for PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S as an early access title. From the first moment of its availability, players began to complain, as the servers could not withstand the load at launch , resulting in the game being inaccessible for many hours. In fact, even when the servers stabilized somewhat, the huge queues managed to irritate even the most patient.

The problems were just beginning though, after the initial hurdles many realized that access to the game requires the use of an SMS verification mechanism , which is not compatible with prepaid numbers. And this was a point of intense criticism, since too many players were unable to play the game, even though they were enjoying the first Overwatch normally until a few twenty-four hours ago. Then the issues continued with a painful bug that made the game buy paid skins on its own!

Now, the icing on the cake is the complete removal of characters until Blizzard can solve the sequel’s issues with their abilities . Among other things, then, Torbjorn and Bastion are currently not available for player selection.

All of this, predictably, left the community quite unhappy, resulting in review bombing on Metacritic. Somehow, Overwatch 2, and more specifically its PC version, has a crimson User Score of 1.5 on the platform, after 1708 reviews.

So, taking stock, in the last few years, Blizzard has managed to enter with three different releases in the list of the worst rated games of all time by the community, since next to Overwatch 2 stands Diablo Immortal with a 0.4 rating and Warcraft III: Reforged with 0.6.
