James Webb: What does the public think about mankind’s most powerful telescope?

A new poll reveals public attitudes toward the $10 billion telescope

The James Webb Telescope has only scratched the surface of what humanity’s most powerful telescope can offer .

However , it cost NASA $10 billion and is also one of its most expensive projects. A poll conducted by YouGov America , a well-known data analytics and marketing services company, reveals the public’s attitude towards JWST.

Most Americans therefore believe that the James Webb Space Telescope was worth the billions spent on it, with 7/10 Americans having “a very or somewhat favorable opinion ” of the James Webb Space Telescope.

The poll polled 1,000 Americans where they were asked about NASA and its programs, such as whether they have a favorable opinion of NASA. Just 13% have an unfavorable view of the US space agency, while 16% are unsure .

They were also asked about their thoughts on various NASA programs, such as the Hubble Space Telescope, the International Space Station, sending astronauts to the moon, the space shuttle program, and more.

Participants were asked whether they thought the investments made in each of these projects were good or bad investments. The results reveal that 3 in 5 Americans believe JWST was a good investment , while 33% said they were not sure and 13% said it was a bad investment .

The future, however, is bright for the data, discoveries, and stunning pictures that the James Webb Telescope can send us.
