Friday The 13th: A prequel series is coming from A24 about the iconic serial killer

A24 and Peacock join forces

In a project we certainly didn’t expect to hear about coming to fruition, we’ve learned that a prequel series to the Friday The 13th movies titled ” Crystal Lake ” is coming to Peacock ‘s streaming service .

Except that the production is undertaken by the well-known indie studio A24, which is known for the quality of the films and series it has produced.

Friday The 13th is undoubtedly one of the most iconic horror film franchises in history, and the fact that it’s coming back in the form of a prequel series begs the question.

Behind the cameras in the creation of the series and the script is Bryan Fuller, who has previously graced such series as the acclaimed “Hannibal” with Mads Mikkelsen, American Gods , Star Trek: Discovery and Dead Like Me .

Returning to the production of the series is Victor Miller, who wrote the script for the first film “Friday the 13th”. The Peacock, in a statement through its head of programming, Susan Rovner, said that they will bring to the small screen together with A24, a ” refreshed version of the Friday The 13th universe that will live up to the thrills and horrors that have brought to the franchise over the years “ .

At the moment the information surrounding the script of the Crystal Lake series remains confidential although it is described as an “expanded prequel”. However, these developments come in the wake of the end of a legal battle fought between the team that created the first Friday The 13th film.

However, it is unknown if the acquired rights can allow the use of the iconic hockey mask worn by Jason Voorhees, which he first donned in Friday The 13th: Part III .

The original Friday the 13th movie was released in 1980. In that movie, Jason is a child who drowns at Camp Crystal Lake. His death leads his mother Pamela to seek revenge on those responsible for her son’s death. It grossed nearly $60 million dollars against a budget hovering around $550,000.

Since then, there have been eleven more films in the franchise, including “Jason X,” “Freddy vs. Jason” and the 2009 reboot.
