RUMOR: Counter-Strike 2 is almost ready and may be announced in March

Accidentally revealed by…Nvidia!

In the last few hours, a new rumor has been circulating on the internet that wants Valve to have a big surprise in store for Counter-Strike fans . Specifically, a brand new version of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive , possibly called Counter-Strike 2 , seems to be just around the corner!

Going into details, all the speculation started after the release of Nvidia’s latest drivers for its graphics cards. As observant social media users spotted, the new driver brings support for the two new executables ‘cs2’ and ‘csgo2’, which are named ‘Counter-Strike 2’. This discovery, combined with the sudden change of the franchise’s official account banner in late February, sent the community’s speculation into high gear.

Then, fueling the fire came independent reporter Richard Lewis, who through a post on Substack revealed that indeed “Counter-Strike 2” is real and its release is expected to take place very soon. His report, which cites anonymous sources, specifically states:

Sources with knowledge of the game’s development have told us that there is indeed a new version of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive coming that Valve has been working on for some time. The new version will almost certainly be released under the ‘working’ title Counter-Strike 2, and the tentative beta release date is mid-March.

Lewis points out that the new version of Counter-Strike makes use of Valve’s more modern Source 2 graphics engine , bringing a host of improvements. For example, the official servers will now have a 128 tick rate , which means they will be equivalent to Valorant, Riot’s competitive title. At the same time, the match-making system will also be greatly improved.

At the moment it is not clear if Counter-Strike 2 will completely replace Counter-Strike: Global Offensive or if it will coexist with it for some time. The reporter points out that Valve may release the new version in the same way they managed the porting of DOTA 2 to the Source 2 graphics engine. In particular, the company had then released Dota 2 Reborn, which ran alongside the original game, until a merger was finally made, making the new version the main one.

Of course, at the moment none of the above has been confirmed, so we suggest you take the information with a grain of salt.
