YouTube: The Android app is upgraded with new features for your home screen
Added two new widgets
After the recent major redesign of YouTube for both computers and smartphones, Google continues the upgrades, with the Android app now welcoming new features for your home screen.
Going into detail, the YouTube app for Android now offers several widgets for your mobile home, which provide direct access to several key aspects of the experience, such as subscriptions, Shorts and search. Specifically, YouTube now has the following two widgets : Quick Actions (3×3) and Search (4×1).
Search does exactly what you’d imagine, offering a direct search bar to search for what you’re interested in on YouTube right on your mobile home screen, without having to open the app. It is worth noting that next to the bar there is also a button for voice search.
On the other hand, Quick Actions is an even richer widget, offering all the features of Search, along with four more shortcuts. One for the main YouTube app, one to start watching Shorts directly, one to see the feed of videos uploaded by the channels you are subscribed to, as well as one for the library of saved videos, the your playlists, etc.
You can see what the new widgets look like in action through the following player.
