Four-day working is being adopted by companies in the UK
After the trial period
More than 70 UK companies taking part in the four-day working trial have said they will continue the scheme after the trial ends, allowing workers to keep 100% of their pay with 80% of working hours. Halfway through the six-month trial, the data show a maintenance or even increase in productivity.
We learn that for many it was a smooth transition and for some there were expected difficulties, especially in companies that have inflexible practices, systems or cultures that belong to the last century. – Joe O’Connor, CEO 4 Week Global
Of the 73 companies that took part in the test, 86% said they would keep the four-day work even after it ended. 95% of them said productivity stayed the same or improved during the shorter week.
Over 3,300 workers kept their salary and benefited from lower costs of transport to and from work, as well as childcare costs. They even point out that a parent with two children could save up to £3,232 a year.
The trial of the four-day task is taking place simultaneously in the US, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.
