RUMOR: Windows 12 will have heavier requirements – Many PCs will be left behind
After Windows 11 the bar will be raised again
Lately Windows 12 is starting to sound more and more, since even Microsoft itself started to prepare the ground, with big changes in its Windows Insider programs, as we informed you.
This seems reasonable, of course, since Windows 12 sounds like it will arrive in 2024 , that is, three years after Windows 11. Microsoft will leave behind the ‘Windows as a service’ model that started in 2015 with the release of Windows 10, which many believed would be the last version of the operating system, again adopting the 3-year plan it had relied on for years.
So, after the photo of their UI that was leaked last year in October, now a new rumor is doing the rounds of the internet regarding the system requirements . In particular, the German media Deskmodder reports, according to anonymous sources it cites, that Windows 12 will raise the bar again, leaving even more computers behind.

More specifically, the next version of Microsoft’s operating system will retain the need for a special encryption chip, the so-called TPM 2.0, which caused a lot of confusion when Windows 11 was first announced, since it was something that many old processors or motherboards did not have. In addition to TPM 2.0, Windows 12 is expected to ask for more RAM . Windows 11 currently needs at least 4GB according to official requirements. As the German media reports, this number will increase from 4GB of RAM to 8GB with Windows 12.
This does not necessarily mean that the operating system will be more “heavier”, but this scenario is certainly possible. The media reports that the requirements for CPUs will remain the same. Therefore, all owners of systems with a 2nd Gen Ryzen or 8th Gen Intel Core or newer processor will normally be able to upgrade.
Of course, 8GB is a number that sounds normal and will be met by most computers in 2024, but still some older systems, as well as several laptops, will probably be left behind. The big question is how much RAM the operating system will consume to run it in general, if 8GB is the minimum requirement.
