PS5: Very big internal changes in the new 1200 model and reduced consumption
All the differences in detail
As we informed you a few days ago, a new version of the PS5 has quietly arrived on the shelves of stores in Australia , which comes with the code “CFI-1200”. Initially, the first difference noticed was the weight of the console, with the new model again noticeably lighter than the launch model.
But now, the usual suspect, YouTuber Austin Evans, has managed to get his hands on the ‘1200’ model and has done a detailed comparison with the previous two versions of the PS5, showcasing their many differences. So, let’s look in detail at the conclusions he arrived at:
The internal differences of the new PS5:
The new PS5 is very much changed internally , which is immediately visible after removing the side panels, since there are more notches in the plastics and new reinforcements . Likewise, the SSD installation tray is also changed and now has no PCB behind it, but metal , which may also translate into better cooling.
Continuing with the fan, as has been the case since the first PS5 consoles, there are various variations and it is purely a matter of luck which one will happen to each consumer. Next is the cooling system that has been changed , since at the back it has been reinforced with an additional heatpipe , while at the front it looks more like the ‘1100’ model than the original version of the console. Overall, the central motherboard is considerably shorter , also changing the position of the CMOS battery.
The weight of the new PS5:
- The original ‘1000’ PS5 model weighs 3,817kg.
- The first revision, i.e. the ‘1100’ PS5 model weighs 3,547 kg.
- The new ‘1200’ PS5 model weighs 3,302kg.
The power consumption of the new PS5:
- The original ‘1000’ PS5 model consumes 218 watts.
- The first revision, i.e. the ‘1100’ PS5 model consumes 229 Watts .
- The new ‘1200’ PS5 model consumes 201 Watts.
This is a very significant difference of almost 10% which in the long run can have a positive impact on the electricity bill.
The temperatures of the new PS5:
- The original ‘1000’ PS5 model reached its hottest point of 52.4 degrees Celsius in the rear vent.
- The first revision, namely the ‘1100’ PS5 model reached the hottest point of 63 degrees Celsius in the rear vent.
- The new ‘1200’ PS5 model reached 52.5 degrees Celsius in the rear vent, but it’s worth noting that the temperature was better distributed along the entire length of the console.
For now the new PS5 is only available in Australia, but soon it is expected to be the only version available worldwide. According to the YouTuber , this new version seems to be better , mainly thanks to the reduced power consumption, which we still don’t know exactly why.
