Twitter: Elon Musk begins layoffs – Half lose their jobs

Almost everyone is now said to be laying off 50% of the workforce

Elon Musk put forward his announced Twitter downsizing plan only to lay off nearly all of the staff as previously reported – about 75% – but less according to the latest reports.

Sources inside Twitter told Bloomberg that 50% of staff will be cut , a number that equates to layoffs that will reach 3,700 employees out of a total of 7,500 employees. Already today, Twitter employees will be informed by 9am (US time – 6pm Greek time) via email about the status of their employment.

“If your employer has not been affected, you will receive a notification from Twitter via email. If it has been affected, then you will receive a notification about next steps via your personal mail, ” reads the announcement within the social media giant to the staff and continues that “to ensure the safety of employees” Twitter’s systems and the company’s offices “will be temporarily shut down and all passes will be disabled. “

In order to avoid excessive reactions, Twitter will probably have its offices closed today, although its memorandum does not mention how many people will be laid off. Last week Elon Musk and Tesla’s software engineers were in meetings about which engineers and managers to keep based on their contributions to the Twitter code.

This massive wave of layoffs by Twitter’s new boss is part of his plan to cut costs, something he warned was a problem before he even bought the social network for a mammoth $44 billion.

A few days ago it was confirmed that the “blue tick” will become available to everyone, but with a monthly subscription of $8.
