AMD’s new generation Threadripper has arrived

AMD revealed the third generation of  Threadripper CPU of the new TR 3960X and TR 3970X with 24 and 32 cores respectively. Both are based on AMD’s 7nm Zen 2 architecture, with 72 PCIe 4.0 lanes available and 12 second-generation USB 3.1 USB-Cs.

They are aimed at content creators because of most kernels and PCIe 4.0. The TR 3960X is clocked at 3.8GHz at 4.5GHz and the TR 3970X at 3.7GHz at 4.5GHz as well. Both chips have a TDP consumption of 280W.

In particular, the TR 3970X will increase encoding of Adobe Premiere CC 2019 by 47% over Intel’s Core i9-9980XE. Third-generation Threadrippers use the new Socket sTRX4 which is not compatible with motherboards that support second-generation models.

An exact release date has not been released, but will be priced at $ 1,399 and $ 1,999 for the RT 3960X and RT 3970X respectively.
