According to a report by Redanian Intelligence, Liam Hemsworth was among the frontrunners to play the TV Geralt back in 2018 when the role was being cast. The report does not reveal many details about the background of the case, such as if he was in the Top 3 of the options, but it says that he was ” definitely among the best” . 

After the departure of Henry Cavill, the Netflix executives did not proceed with any extensive casting process and simply went to the old shortlist where Liam Hemsworth seemed like the most suitable second choice. 

In a parallel universe, that is, the Netflix production would have chosen Liam Hemsworth in the first place and not Henry Cavill who was widely loved for his performance, but also for the reason that he fought to keep the character faithful to the books.

The first statement of the new Geralt

Through the TUDUM site of Netflix, Liam Hemsworth now being the new Geralt of the 4th season of The Witcher, stated the following: 

“As a fan of The Witcher I am thrilled at the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt and I am honored to be handing over the reins and allowing me to take up the swords of the White Wolf for the next chapter of his adventure . Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you’ve given to this beloved character. I may have a big gap to fill, but I’m really excited to enter the world of The Witcher.”

When is The Witcher season 3 coming out?

It will be a while before we see Hemsworth’s new Geralt. Henry Cavill’s final stint as Geralt will premiere in summer 2023 on Netflix.
