vivo Y33s: The Smartphone that stands out from the competition in its category

An overall interesting proposition

The vivo Y33s came to the Greek market and offers some very interesting features for the affordable phone category. As for its build quality, we are dealing with a mainly plastic body, which offers a premium feel to the back thanks to its matte, iridescent surface in blue, while in black the surface is a mirror. The keys are all on the right side, with the fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button. At the bottom we find the speaker and the USB-C charging port, while the audio jack port has also been preserved. The flat screen rises slightly higher than the frame and the teardrop-shaped selfie camera sits at the top.

In the technical aspects of the screen, we have IPS technology at 6.58 inches with FHD+ resolution, 60Hz refresh rate and normal bezels. The color performance is highly satisfactory since it covers 96% of the NTSC color palette, while the brightness is sufficient for use outdoors in daylight. I would venture to say that the display is better than the majority of devices in this price range.

Inside we have Mediatek’s octa-core Helio G80. In the RAM and storage space we have 4GB/64GB, 4GB/128GB and 8GB/128GB and combined with the light Funtouch 11.1 based on Android 11, it offers a very smooth navigation experience quickly performing all tasks. And in this low-end phone, vivo brings the technology we saw in its more expensive models, Extended RAM 2.0, with which, whenever necessary, it reserves 4GB of ROM memory to use as RAM, accelerating performance even more.

You will not be disappointed in the battery sector, since the 5,000mAh is enough to keep the phone in use for a day with normal use, while fast 18W wired charging is also offered. Of course the fast charger is included in the package.

The strong point of the vivo Y33s is definitely its camera. In this price range most phones suffer in this area, but vivo has made a difference here and offers a triple camera setup, with the 50MP (f/1.8) main one stealing the show. The central camera offers high definition photos in good lighting conditions.

But it also does very well in low light conditions with the Super Night mode which offers satisfactory levels of noise reduction, combining several frames into one for clarity in the photo.

The central camera is complemented by a 2MP bokeh for depth measurements and a 2MP macro with focus up to 4cm.

The 16MP selfie camera is also remarkable, while the Smart Screen Flash functions that offer lighting from the screen and the Super Night Selfie for clear photos in a dark environment also come here.

In 1080p video at 30fps, electronic stabilization kicks in automatically as soon as it detects shake and generally delivers material that comfortably passes the base.

Overall, the vivo Y33s is a worthy proposition in the €250 category that should definitely not escape your attention.
