Forget the DCEU! The name of the DC Cinematic Universe is changing
And the change is simpler than you think
Sweeping and necessary changes to the DC Films hierarchy mark a new era.
This era is led by James Gunn and Peter Safran, who will lead DC Studios – as it will now be called – in “Marvel’s anti-Kevin Feige” roles, being part of a concentrated and more enhanced effort by Warner Bros. Discovery to take advantage of the DC cinematic universe and all those super heroes.
The name change to DC Studios is not the only one that has taken place and is already in effect in this “new DC”.
The new name of the DCEU
But forget the DCEU name because it no longer applies. According to an internal memo from the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav on Gunn-Safran’s consolidation at the helm of DC Studios referred to the cinematic universe under a different acronym:
“For over 60 years, these and other DC characters have captivated and inspired generations of fans around the world, and as stewards of the iconic franchise, we feel a real responsibility to preserve and expand the DCU for the entertainment of future generations.”
The confirmation of the new name from DCEU to “DCU” or simply DC Universe , was confirmed by The Wrap reporter, who obtained the above memo.
This is just one more confirmation that Warner Bros. Discovery is dryly following the tried and tested formula of Marvel Studios, after hiring the already talented and proven success in the superhero/comicbook genre, James Gunn in an anti-Feige role.
