How does Always On work on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max?

Apple answers your questions

The iPhone 14 was released a few hours ago in various countries, and Apple released a document that explains how the screen of the “Pro” models turns off by itself when you have always-On enabled. In particular, the company made a list of different scenarios where the screen of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max is temporarily disabled, when you have your mobile in said mode.

To save more battery, Apple says the phone’s screen will turn off when, among other things:

  • When the phone is for example on a table and the screen is facing down
  • When iPhone is in your pocket or bag
  • When you have “sleep focus” on
  • When you have “Low Power Mode” enabled
  • When iPhone is connected to CarPlay
  • When you haven’t used your iPhone for a while
  • When your iPhone detects that you’ve moved away, but you’re wearing your Apple Watch

According to Apple, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will be able to learn your various activity patterns and act accordingly. These phones can drop the refresh rate as low as 1Hz to ensure that the Always On setting doesn’t have too much of an impact on battery life.
