Star Wars: The “Andor” series is Diego Luna’s final appearance in the universe
“Cassian Andor” explains how he was convinced to return and why this is his last time
Already ” Andor ” is shown on Disney+ being the newest series of the Star Wars universe and the prequel spinoff of ” Rogue One “. Diego Luna who stars in the role of Cassian Andor gave an interview to Entertainment Weekly where he explained how the show’s creator, Tony Gilroy, convinced him to return and of course he firmly believes this will be the last time he plays him.
He initially mentioned that he didn’t expect to return given the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but Gilroy convinced him by explaining that there is a clear beginning and end to this story:
It was clear to me that Rogue One was going to be a movie that I would enjoy from start to finish. That in the end I would promote it and then go back to my life and do my own thing and that was it. And it’s interesting, because then I was offered Andor, but with the same proviso, because Andor has a clear ending, which is Rogue One. From the moment Tony Gilroy had the idea to go back five years, there’s only five years to tell.”
However, his most important statement comes when he says that Andor will be the last time he plays the character of Cassian Andor:
That’s it for me. It’s a great journey now that I have 24 episodes, 24 smaller movies to tell the story of Cassian’s origin and how he became the man we know in Rogue One.
A few words about Star Wars: Andor
Andor promises to explore a new perspective on the universe, focusing on Cassian’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series will feature the story of the explosive rebellion against the Empire and how various people and planets became involved. It’s a time in the beloved universe full of danger, deception and intrigue, with Cassian taking his first steps on the path destined to transform him into a hero of the revolution. After all, we are five years before “Rogue One,” while the finale of the show, as Tony Gilroy said, will take us a few days before its first scene.
For the record, we already know that Season 1 and the already confirmed Andor Season 2 will consist of 12 episodes – the most of any live-action Star Wars series to date. The episodes are directed by Toby Haynes, Susanna White and Benjamin Caron.
Visually, it will even differ from the other spinoff series of Star Wars (see The Mandalorian, Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi) since it was shot “old-fashioned” without The Volume technology, with green screen and a mix of normal sets and practical effects.
At the same time, in addition to Luna who returns to the character of “Rogue One”, the spy Cassian Andor, the cast also includes Stellan Skarsgard ( Dune ), Adria Arjona ( Morbius ), Fiona Shaw ( Killing Eve ), Denise Gough ( Monday, Flux Gourmet ), Kyle Soller ( Poldark ), and Robert Emms ( Chernobyl ). Finally, Forest Whitaker (Saw Gerrera) and Ben Mendelsohn (Orson Krennic) will also return from their roles in Rogue One .
” Succession ” composer Nicholas Britell has taken over Andor’s soundtrack.
