Green Lantern series: From scratch its development on HBO Max with a new protagonist
Change of course for DC’s troubled TV project
The case of Green Lantern is one of the most troubled since for a few years DC has been trying to develop a series for HBO Max , but we have a change of course.
As of 2019, the ” Green Lantern Corps ” is in development. a series that would focus on Guy Gardner and Alan Scott two lesser-known members of the Green Lantern corps, with Finn Whitrock ( Ratched ) and Jeremy Irvine ( Treadstone ) also cast in the roles.
Now through THR’s report we learn that Greg Berlanti ‘s production series is starting from scratch again. Instead of the above, the new plan for the Green Lantern series states that it will star John Stewart, who is undoubtedly the second most famous Green Lantern after Hal Jordan, who was played by Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 film of the same name.
Part of this creative reorientation is the departure of writer and showrunner Seth Grahame-Smith, who had already delivered the script for the first season with 8 episodes completed. The reason for his departure is because there have been several changes in the upper echelons of HBO Max, Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Comics.
However, due to this change of course, David Zaslav rethought the budget of the Green Lantern series, which would be the “most expensive and largest DC series ever “. Its budget reached around $120 million dollars (in comparison House of the Dragon cost less than $200 million) but now the series will proceed with significantly less budget.
So sooner or later new developments are expected for the Green Lantern series that will come to HBO Max at some point.
It seems that the exit of Walter Hamada and the consolidation of James Gunn as the new head of DC Films – now DC Studios – together with Peter Safran brought a lot of developments to the various and many projects that DC is preparing.
James Gunn’s role at DC Studios is now the equivalent of Kevin Feige’s at Marvel Studios – a move the Warner Bros president has wanted to make for months. Discovery, David Zaslav.
