YouTube: You can now choose your name on the platform
Claim yours
YouTube has announced that soon users will be able to choose a username of their choice for their account on the platform. The “ @name ” can be used as it is used in all other social media and will apply to channel pages and Shorts, in order to be able to mention users in comments, video descriptions, titles and generally anywhere that will help creators to increase the visibility of their account.
We want to ensure that creators have a unique identity, while also giving viewers the confidence that they are interacting with their favorite creator.
Note that the name of the channel will remain the same, only now the username will be added, possibly reducing the number of accounts impersonating someone else.
Usernames will begin rolling out this week, prioritizing username selection on specific accounts. The notifications will come gradually, based on the total presence on the platform, the number of subscribers and whether the channel is active.
If a user has already created a personalized URL for their channel, then this will be their default username, however they will be able to change it. The creation of usernames is also a way of YouTube to push content creators who do not have a presence on the platform, to hurry to register their username.
