Moana: The Live-Action Remake Is Happening With Dwayne Johnson Returning As Maui (VIDEO)

Disney’s surprise announcement

Disney is putting wind back into its sails to sail the waters of the world of Moana again. The famous studio reserved a surprising announcement as it became known that a live-action remake of the beloved ” Moana ” is being prepared with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson even returning to the role of Maui.

The remake of Moana breaks a tradition that wants the older and classic animated films of Wald Disney Animation to return to “live-action”, as Moana (“Vaiana” in Greece and some other countries) is a film that was released just in 2016. This move probably signals a change in strategy from Disney, so perhaps other popular movies from its modern era (post-2000) will be remade in the same way.

It was announced by Dwayne Johnson in a video shot on the shores of an island where the setting of Moana is based, with his two young daughters by his side. It is worth mentioning that the actress Auli’i Cravalho, who lent her voice to the heroine of the same name, will participate as an executive producer. Which actress will take her place and embody her in live-action form remains to be seen.

The animated film was a huge commercial success (over $665 million dollars) and was loved by young and old thanks to its well-known and catchy tracks such as “You’re Welcome” and “How Far I’ll
Go ”
, the composed by Oscar winner
Lin-Manuel Miranda. In fact, “You’re Welcome” (“My Joy” in Greek) sung by Johnson himself went platinum four times, while his YouTube video has made history with over 1.4 billion
views .

The remake of “Moana” is in the works and we still don’t know when it will be shown, as Johnson emphasizes in the announcement video that “it is still very early in the project and it has a lot of work ahead of it “.

As for the rest of the live action remakes, we will soon see The Little Mermaid , while we recently learned the star of Lilo and Stitch . The live-action version of ” Hercules”, “ The Aristocats” and ” Snow White ” is also being prepared.
