Twitter: Permanent ban is coming to accounts impersonating someone else
Even if it is verified
Musk announced a new rule on Twitter regarding impersonation. Those who follow the tycoon on Twitter, will surely have found that under each of his tweets, there are many fake accounts with his name commenting. Musk wants to combat this and announced:
From now on, Twitter names that impersonate someone else without clearly stating that they are a “spoof” will be permanently terminated. Until now we issued a warning before the ban, but now that we have widespread user authentication there will be no warning. This will also be a prerequisite for entering Twitter Blue. Any name change will cause the blue tick to be temporarily lost.
After Musk announced that anyone would get a blue tick for $8 a month, many were quick to rename their accounts to “Elon Musk”, to highlight the fact that the authentication system doesn’t actually check who has the account. Famous comedians who tried it ended up losing their accounts.
