Did you know Google Drive has a file limit?

Even if you pay a Google One subscription

Google “quietly” recently introduced a limit on file creation in Google Drive. This limit is set at 5 million files per user, including those who pay a Google One subscription. Google describes the move as a ” precautionary measure against system abuse ” to ensure the stability and security of Google Drive’s operation.

According to Google, the new measure will affect a very small number of users and not typical users, as the limit is quite high. But those affected got a notice from Google asking them to delete millions of files to comply with the new limit.

There is even a limit on shared files, which amounts to 400,000 files.

The limit will not be a problem for a typical user, but it is expected to cause problems for cloud backups of professionals who produce a large number of small files.

It is worth mentioning that Google had never mentioned the limit until now, while the company’s support pages do not mention anything either. Additionally, there is no meter to let one know if one is nearing the limit before it is too late.
