Facebook and Twitter are removing fake accounts supporting Trump, with 55 million followers
Facebook and Twitter proceeded to remove a false network accounts who promoted messages in favor of Donald Trump. The scary case is the size of this network that reached 55 million real followers. All fake accounts and pages were declared Americans with profile photos produced by artificial intelligence.
The activity of the accounts was aimed at engaging in domestic and international policies. They appeared as news agencies or party members, public figures, and activists. Their posts mainly focused on elections, government policies, public officials, while criticizing opposition and activist organizations. The first was for Georgia and the second for Vietnam and the US. In Georgia, digital footprints lead to Panda ad company and government, with almost half a million people following fake pages and profiles.
In the case of the US, over 55 million users followed fake accounts posting memes and news on US political news, such as Trump’s referral, support for Republican policies, trade policies, family values, and political candidates. Facebook linked the business with US-based Epoch Media Group.
The number of accounts that followed these sources of misinformation is frightening and reveals the new reality we live in today, where we have to be very careful about what we trust to read and most importantly what we choose to share online while making anyone wonder what size it may be. the same thing happens in our country.
