FIFA 23: Major changes to penalties and triples

First title update available

FIFA 23 has been on the market for about a week, and now EA has made its first update available which brings some much-needed changes, according to community feedback.

Going into detail, the development team has slightly changed the penalties, making it a bit harder for someone to score, especially when their player’s Composure index is low. Moving on, the first update also changes dribbles, which many found extremely slow unless they were using one of the title’s top stat players. Finally, EA has also made changes to the referees.

At the same time, an even bigger update is expected towards the end of October , which will bring more and more substantial changes. EA is apparently waiting for the first Weekend League to finish to see how the title will fare on a competitive level and then adjust the experience accordingly and based on the feedback gathered from there.

All the gameplay changes made by the first FIFA 23 patch:

  • Reduced the accuracy of penalties taken when the Composure Ring is yellow or red.
  • Increased the speed of the Technical Dribbling animation for players with a lower dribbling rating as well. This change especially affects footballers whose dribbling related stats are below 90 points.
  • Adjusted referees to be less likely to call fouls for hand-related collisions with players.
  • Adjusted referees to be more likely to issue yellow cards for fouls committed by hard Slide Tackles.

FIFA 23 is available for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Stadia and Nintendo Switch from September 30, 2022 and will be the last EA title to be released under the famous name, as from in 2024 and then its own “football” will be called EA Sports FC.
