Instagram: It sounds like the blue tick will be paid!
Following the path blazed by Twitter
A few months ago, the big change of Twitter became the first topic of discussion, which under the leadership of Elon Musk decided to make the blue tick privilege that can be acquired for a fee . Now, it seems that Meta is thinking about doing the same for its own social media , Facebook and Instagram .
Digging into the details, new references were spotted in the social media code by developer Alessandro Paluzzi, who is known for various reverse engineering feats, having previously discovered features and functions months before their official debut. So, according to what Paluzzi discovered, Meta is currently working on a new subscription product and paid blue ticks.
As you can see from the image below, brought to the attention of TechCrunch , in the code of the Instagram application, it discovered the references “IG_NME_PAID_BLUE_BADGE_IDV” and “FB_NME_PAID_BLUE_BADGE_IDV”. According to the developer, ‘IDV’ rather stands for ‘identity verification’.

The company has not made any official statement and even refused to comment on the discovery, but apparently something is going on behind the scenes. Currently, the coveted blue tick for many is a privilege only for high-profile individuals, celebrities and global brands or entities. This even led to the creation of a black market that ensured verification, with revenues in the millions.
It seems that after Elon Musk’s experiment, Meta wants to take advantage of this market, although it is not yet certain how exactly its own system will work and if indeed the blue tick will be paid for on Facebook and Instagram. Twitter Blue currently charges its subscribers $8 per month.
