Orion: See the historic photo of the Moon and Earth in the same shot (PICTURE)

From a record distance

On the thirteenth day of its mission, the Orion capsule reached its maximum distance from Earth, traveling farther than any other craft built to house humans inside. From a distance of 432,210 kilometers from Earth, Orion captured a photo showing the Moon and Earth in the same shot.

Like Voyager 1’s historic “Pale Blue Dot” photo, the new image puts humanity’s home in a different light. A blue rock in the dark universe.

The Artemis I mission has so far exceeded NASA’s expectations. Although it has completed only 31 of its 124 primary objectives, the NASA team is adding other objectives such as sustained engine firing. Almost half of the remaining activities are ongoing, with the rest involving the return of the Orion capsule to Earth.
