Tom Hardy was beating everyone, winning a jiu-jitsu tournament! (PICTURES – VIDEOS)

He emerged as the best in his class

Many times in the past Tom Hardy has taken on the role of the “tough guy” for films such as The Dark Knight Rises, in which he played the monstrous Bane, or for 2011’s Warrior, in which he played the role of a military and ex-athlete who trains to participate in an MMA tournament.

After all, Hardy isn’t just a tough guy in his movies, but in real life as well, as he just proved. In particular, this Saturday he surprised everyone by showing up and even winning a martial arts tournament!

Going into details, the 45-year-old participated in the 2022 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Open Championship that took place in the city of Milton Keynes, England. Hardy won all of his matches and was the big winner of his division.

Sean Rosborough, who sponsored the event, said the organizers knew a few weeks in advance that Hardy would be taking part, but kept his appearance a secret. Rosborough even pointed out that Hardy was very friendly and open with fans who approached him for photos.

Similarly, a spokesperson for the tournament described Hardy as a “really good guy”, adding:

Everyone recognized him, but he was very humble and was happy to give people time to have their picture taken with him. It was a real pleasure to have him compete in our event.

Tom Hardy’s History With Martial Arts:

Hardy is believed to have started training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu in preparation for his aforementioned film, Warrior. Apparently this was enough to introduce him to the art, since this is not the first time he has participated in a similar tournament.

In particular, Hardy, who holds a blue belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, had also participated in the REORG Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship that took place in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom in August. This is a tournament to raise money for military personnel, veterans and emergency workers. Hardy works with the said charity which teaches jiu-jitsu to people with serious injuries or suffering from post-traumatic stress and depression.
