Twitter denies millions of user emails were leaked from its servers
He throws the ball elsewhere
Over 200 million Twitter users’ email addresses have been leaked and are for sale on the dark web, but Twitter denies that the leak came from hacking its systems.
In the first and rather delayed statement he made on the matter, he emphasized that ” there is no evidence ” that the data came from a security gap and that it is rather a collection of data ” that was already publicly available online “.
However, Hudson Rock, the company that discovered the leak, disputes Twitter’s findings.
I urge security researchers to conduct a thorough investigation of the leaked data and refute Twitter’s claim that the data is some form of data enrichment that did not originate from its own servers. – Alon Gal, co-founder of Hudson Rock
For the record, Hudson Rock reported in December that a hacker named Ryushi was trying to blackmail Twitter by threatening a massive leak. Ryushi claimed to be in possession of the emails and phone numbers of 400 million Twitter users and offered to “sell” them exclusively to Twitter. Last week, a different person leaked 200 million email addresses from Twitter users, which were available to anyone interested for a small fee.
Twitter did not say whether the email addresses were authentic or matched user accounts. The company urges its users to be cautious and watch out for any phishing emails.
