Cyberpunk 2077: Its graphics are upgraded with even more ray-tracing (VIDEO)
Here comes Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode
There is no doubt that the PC version of Cyberpunk 2077 , in the compositions with the necessary hardware, is truly a feast for the eyes. The game already has some seriously impressive graphics, but now CD Projekt RED, in collaboration with Nvidia, are coming to take the technical field one step further.
Specifically, on the occasion of the unveiling of the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090, the Polish team announced Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode , which will soon enrich the game with various new, even more advanced ray tracing techniques. In fact, this update will also integrate Nvidia’s DLSS 3 , helping owners of the company’s new graphics cards to enjoy the experience with smoother framerates.
Moving on to the Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode technical upgrades, this will add/change the following:
NVIDIA RTX Direct Illumination (RTXDI) will give every neon sign, every street light, every car’s traffic lights, every LED billboard and TV, realistic ray-traced lighting and shadows. Thus, objects, walls, passing cars, pedestrians and in general the entire game world will have realistic lighting with correct colors.
Rays used for ray-traced indirect lighting and reflections will now do multiple bounces, compared to the single bounce they did in the previous solution. The result is global illumination, reflections and self-reflections with even more realism and precision.
Ray-traced reflections will now be rendered at full resolution, with their quality improving even further.
The improved physically-based lighting system will remove the need for any other occlusion technique.
At the moment we do not know exactly when the update that will add Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode will arrive, however a first comparison video has been released and you can see it through the player below.
