Brazil seeks Chinese investment in semiconductor technology

He’s making a name for himself in the US

Shortly before Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s visit to China, a government spokesman revealed that Brazil will seek Chinese technology and investment to develop its own semiconductor industry in the South American country, despite US efforts to prevent China from meddling in the region.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Celso Amorim, emphasized that his country cannot afford to choose sides in the ever-increasing tensions between China and the US, and the Brazilian President’s trip will seek cooperation with China to cultivate its sustainable development. Brazil and its digital economy.

Amorim added that the two countries are ready to sign agreements for satellites, as well as contracts for the production of telecommunications equipment and microelectronics.

The US has hinted that Chinese microelectronics production is not welcome and could affect Brazil’s plans to produce semiconductors amid a global shortage.

I don’t pay attention to messages. If the US wants to, they can offer bigger and better terms and that was it, we’ll choose theirs. We have no preference for a Chinese semiconductor factory. But if they offer good terms, I see no reason to refuse. We are not afraid of the big bad wolf. – Amorim

Brazil does not see the world divided between China and the USA and will not adopt an ideology from either of them, whether it is international communism or the war of democracies against authoritarian regimes. – Amorim
