Worlds 2022: Dive into viewership for this year’s League of Legends World Championship
In relation to the corresponding event last year that broke records
The League of Legends World Championship 2022 playoffs are a breath away, but thanks to Esports Charts, we’ve learned the viewership for the group stage, and it’s not as expected.
According to his statistics, the group phase of LoL Worlds 2022 saw a dip in viewership compared to the corresponding event in 2021, which was held in Iceland.
The highest viewership was during D2 of the group stage between T1 and Fnatic with 1.39 million concurrent viewers .
This is a steep drop of 38% compared to the corresponding Worlds 2021 group stage match between T1 and DetonatioN Focus Me which had 2.23 million viewers and was the 4th most watched match of the entire tournament.

There was a similar drop in viewership for the event with an average of 826,034 viewers, down 37% and a total of 46.5 million viewing hours, a 41% drop compared to last year.
According to Esports Charts this big drop in viewership is due to the showtimes not being convenient for the Asian audience which is of course a large percentage. At the same time, there are 7 Asian teams out of a total of eight in the race for this year’s world championship.
