28 Months Later: Almost everything is ready for the sequel to the station zombie movie

Is it time for the return of the ultimate zombie horror movie?

” 28 Days Later ” (28 Days Later) directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland was a landmark film for the genre of horror films and the sub-genre of zombie/post-apocalyptic/survival films. It wasn’t just the movie that stopped the cliché of slow-moving and

It was the film that introduced us to the stardom and inexhaustible talent of the then young Cillian Murphy, the actor who many years later would become world famous for his role as Thomas Shelby in the Peaky Blinders series .

The script of 28 Months Later is ready

Thanks to an NME feature on 28 Days Later we’ve learned new information about the whereabouts of the third chapter of the story titled 28 Months Later . It looks like the original trio of the first film’s success wants to come back together for a new and proper sequel, as all the main actors say they are “baked” to make it happen, while we learned that Alex Garland has completed his script .

The star of the first film, Cillian Murphy stated that he cannot get the film out of his mind, while he was not in 28 Weeks Later, despite his character managing to survive in the finale. ” Every time I meet Danny or Alex I bring it up. Because I showed it to my kids recently, some Halloween four or five years ago, and they loved it. It’s really stood the test of time, which is amazing for a movie that’s 20 years old ,” Murphy told NME. “So yes, I like the idea and it’s very attractive to me .”

And Danny Boyle, who wants to direct 28 Months Later, said that Garland (who recently gave us MEN) started writing the film two years ago and that at the heart of it is a great idea.

“I’d be very tempted to direct it. I really feel like it’s a really good time. It’s funny, I hadn’t thought about it until you just said it and I remembered that ‘bam, this script!’, which is again set in England, is about very England,” said Boyle.

What’s holding 28 Months Later back?

Boyle himself, however, reveals that there is a major obstacle to moving the project forward and filming the long-awaited sequel, and the reason is none other than the state of cinemas and the industry in the post-pandemic era.

“It might come back into focus because one of the things that’s happening in the industry right now is that there has to be a significant reason to go to the movies, because there are fewer and fewer reasons now ,” Boyle explained. “It’s hard for distribution companies and cinema chains to show movies, they have a hard time getting people to the cinema, unless it’s something like ‘Top Gun’: Maverick’ or a Marvel movie. But a third part would bring the world inside, if it was even half decent .”

There was also the sequel entitled “28 Weeks Later” (28 Weeks Later) but neither in front of nor behind the cameras are the original trio of success. For the story, it was directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo with a script by him and EL Lavigne, Jesus Olmo and Rowan Joffé, with the cast consisting of: Robert Carlyle, Jeremy Renner, Idris Elba, Rose Byrne and Imogen Poots.

Hopefully, the time will be right and 28 Months Later will happen. After all, there are always streaming services for this purpose now.
