Finally the visitors for the tallest tree in the world, otherwise… fine
It is about “Hyperion” a large coniferous tree found in California
The tallest tree in the world , which is certified by the Guinness World Record is 115.92 meters high and is located in Redwood National Park in California, USA. It is a sequoia, i.e. a large coniferous tree of the Cypress family.
His name ” Hyperion “, meaning Hyperion and yes, comes from Greek mythology, as Hyperion was one of the Titans and father of the Sun god and the Moon goddess. As we read on CNN, the Redwood Park announced that from now on it is forbidden to visit this protected tree. Those who don’t follow the rules risk up to six months in jail and a $5,000 fine .
“The giant sequoia is deep in the park without a path through dense vegetation and requires a long hike to reach it. Despite the difficult route, the increased popularity due to bloggers, travel writers and websites has resulted in the destruction of the ecosystem around Hyperion. As a visitor, you must decide whether you will be a part of protecting this unique landscape – or a part of destroying it, ” reads the Redwood National Park announcement.
The park’s chief of natural resources, Leonel Arguello, told the San Fransisco Gate page that because cell phone and GPS services are down, it can cause difficulties if someone gets injured or gets lost in the park’s dense vegetation.
Of course, visitors littering and leaving feces around Hyperion are not the only problem. Fires that break out with greater frequency especially in California pose yet another great threat to these centuries-old trees. A year ago, managers of Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks took drastic measures to protect some of the world’s largest trees from fire.
For example “General Sherman” (photo below), considered the largest tree in volume in the world, was wrapped with an aluminum material that is resistant to fire.
