Lightyear 0 is ready for production after its official presentation
Lightyear announced and presented its first ready-to-produce solar car, called Lightyear 0 .
It is the first production electric car that can run on solar energy, with the Dutch manufacturer stating that in theory one can drive it for months without charging , as long as they live in a suitable environment with plenty of sun.
In the special presentation made by the Dutch company, it announced that the prototype vehicle is the first approved by the European Union for road traffic .
Lightyear 0 is an electric sedan that has a total solar panels of 5 sq.m. which allow it to store enough energy to travel 70 km without using a charger . Being also an electric vehicle, thanks to the 60kWh battery it reaches a range of 560 km if you drive it on a highway at an average speed of 110 km / h, without the involvement of its solar panels – this is how Lightyear has measured its range.
During the World Harmonized Vehicle Testing Procedure (WLTP), the Lightyear outperformed the Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD , with 625 km versus 602 km.
Lightyear also claims that its solar vehicle is the most energy efficient electric vehicle, as the Model 3 Long Range has an 82 kWh battery, which is 22kWh larger than the Lightyear 0.

Price for the Lightyear 0 starts at $ 263,000 and if you wish you can enter the list for one of the 946 models that will be produced at launch.
The company even stated that the special press will be able to make its first test drive and convey its impressions at the end of June. Production will begin next winter and the first orders are expected to reach buyers in November 2022 .
