Thousands of users attended an Apple crypto event that was a scam

It wasn’t organized by Apple

Taking advantage of Apple’s new iPhone announcement event, hackers staged a livestream masquerading as Apple’s cryptocurrency event. Unfortunately, thousands of people watched it without realizing the scam. “ Apple Event Live: CEO of Apple Tim Cook: Apple & Metaverse in 2022 ”, featured Tim Cook’s video from an earlier interview of the Apple CEO on CNN in 2018.

At the same time, the stream had Bitcoin and Ethereum logos covering the CNN logo, with the text “ Apple Crypto Event 2022 ” and “ URGENT NEWS ” grabbing users’ attention. Those who clicked on the link of the channel called ” Apple LIVE “, ended up on a site that had nothing to do with Apple.

YouTube removed the stream after several hours for violating the platform’s user terms.
