We found out when the first 100% Chinese gaming graphics card will be released
It won’t have GPUs from Nvidia, AMD or Intel
At the beginning of April we informed you that the first fully domestic graphics card arrived on the Chinese market, i.e. a model that does not use an Nvidia or AMD or Intel chip and which was mainly intended for workstations. Now, more manufacturers from China are getting into the game and it has been revealed that the first 100% Chinese gaming graphics card is on the way.
In more detail, the Chinese company MetaX Tech has revealed that it will have a gaming GPU ready for the domestic market by 2025 . Dr. Yang Jian, the company’s co-founder, CTO and head of software, revealed the timeline in a new interview, saying that the high-performance models they are planning will be able to compete with the most popular offerings on the market.
Specifically, Dr. Yang stressed that it is necessary for China to make its own high-performance graphics cards, since it accounts for 40% of GPU sales worldwide. Unlike some other Chinese proposals that already exist, the MetaX products are said to feature chips that will be built from scratch, not based on any existing technology, with their own new architecture and instruction set.
Already, MetaX appears to be making excellent progress, having revealed in 2022 that development of a 7nm GPU has been completed, with mass manufacturing starting “soon”. Meanwhile, its second-generation GPU, which is intended for scientific computing, artificial intelligence and data centers, is now in the final stages of research and development, with plans for mass production in 2024.
According to the Chinese website MyDrivers, the company’s lineup will be completed by 2025, through the MXG series aimed at the gaming audience.
For the record, MetaX is made up of several engineers who used to work for AMD, among others.
