Somehow, Spotify is now coming to make a related announcement, adding an AI DJ that will choose music for each user personally!
At this point one might reasonably be wondering what exactly this DJ is, since Spotify already has the ability to suggest music by randomly selecting tracks once a song has finished playing. According to the official announcement, DJ is a personalized AI guide that knows you and your tastes so well that it can automatically select music that you will like, without you ever pressing play on a specific track or album. The feature is initially available in beta and in addition to music selections, the DJ will also provide commentary on the tracks and artists in an amazingly realistic voice.
The DJ will constantly change the playlist based on your feedback, playing both new tracks and old favorites that you may not have heard in years. If you don’t like what you’re hearing, with the push of a button the DJ can change the vibe instantly to fit the mood of the moment. To create this complex AI, Spotify used its existing personalization technology, OpenAI’s generative AI, as well as Sonantic’s voice AI technology.
