Google Maps: Eco-friendly routes are coming to Europe

Major app upgrade

Eco-friendly routes have been available in the Google Maps app for about a year now in the US and Canada. Now, they are also becoming available in Europe and will allow the selection of a route that will take into account the avoidance of traffic and the consumption of your vehicle according to its type, petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric. It is worth mentioning that for electric vehicles, the routes do not include charging stops.

Many times these routes are not the fastest, so you have to choose which is your priority. When the time difference until you reach your destination is very small, the system will automatically choose the one that is more environmentally friendly.

As with all Google updates, you’ll see the new feature gradually over the next few weeks. You can see if the new feature has been added to your app from Google Maps Settings by selecting Navigation Options and then Route Options. There you should see the new Prefer fuel-efficient routes option .
