Windows 11: Big changes are coming to File Explorer

Microsoft wants to modernize the experience

As it turns out, the addition of tabs to Windows 11 ‘s File Explorer a few months ago was just the beginning of a much bigger change. Specifically, Microsoft is working to modernize the folder browsing experience by changing both the Home section and the interface within each folder.

More specifically, developers digging into the code of the latest preview builds of Windows 11 discovered references to a different Home section, as well as a revamped sidebar. Microsoft seems to want to bring every aspect of File Explorer up to date, since right now the experience is somewhat fragmented. Yes, the app has a new, simplified header in Windows 11, but the rest of its design has remained untouched from previous versions of the operating system.

At this point it is worth mentioning that in addition to the Home and sidebar redesign, references to new features such as “Activities”, “Conversations”, “Shared Status” and “Insights” were also discovered in the code, which probably related to Microsoft 365 and its applications, such as Word.

For now, Microsoft has not made any official announcement, but, as we know , at least two major upgrades for the operating system are expected in 2023. Therefore, it is not called within the next few months to see the company open its papers about what it plans for the future of Windows 11.
