NASA renames the Ultima Thule to avoid being associated with the Nazis
The distant space rock, which was photographed by NASA ‘s New Horizons a year ago, gets a new name, Arrokoth , meaning “sky” in two Indian dialects. Their official body name is 2014 MU69, but the New Horizons team gave it the name Ultima Thule , a mythological reference to a remote and mysterious area.
However, a Newsweek journalist has revealed that this name is used by the Nazis to describe the mythical homeland of the Aryan tribe.
The renaming of the MU69 took place at a special NASA ceremony, and the name Arrokoth was chosen in honor of the Indians in Maryland, where the New Horizons mission is based. Objects such as Arrokoth are considered essential components of our Solar System’s planets and their study will help us understand how the planets are formed.
