The end has come for PS4 – These are its sales to date

New data from Sony stops

The PlayStation 4 debuted on the European market in November 2013 and now, nearly a decade later, we’re almost at the end of its life cycle. In particular, the console is already invisible in stores, which are simply selling the last stock they have left, but now Sony itself is coming to put a nail in the coffin of the beloved gaming system.

Going into details, as we informed you , a few hours ago the company revealed its financial results for the first quarter of the fiscal year 2022. In this context, we learned that PS5 sales exceeded 20 million, but Sony chose not to say anything about the course of the PS4.

From the third quarter of fiscal 2014 to the fourth quarter of fiscal 2021, Sony’s financial results have always included a section dedicated to PlayStation 4 sales, revealing to investors how many systems reached store shelves. Now, this section for the first time has been removed from the company’s financial results, where there are now only figures for the PS5.

Practically, this marks the end of the PS4, since Sony does not expect to sell a significant number of consoles anymore, to the extent that it does not even need a special reference to its financial results. And officially, therefore, the cycle of the PS4 closes with 117.2 million sales . That’s the latest official number we’ve learned from Sony, placing the console within the top 5 most successful gaming systems of all time.

PS4 sales from 2014 to 2021

At this point it is worth mentioning that Sony has predicted that it will sell 18 million consoles within the current financial year. In the next nine months, therefore, he believes that he will be able to send 15.7 million PS5s to the store shelves.

It remains to be seen whether it will be able to achieve its ambitious goal, which requires addressing the issues it has encountered on the production line that keep stock low even today, nearly two years after the new generation’s initial debut.
