Google Chrome 109: These are the changes for the first update of 2023

New features for the popular browser

With the holiday season now a thing of the past, Google has returned to its schedule of regular updates for Chrome , making the new version 109 available . In particular, the update of the well-known browser has been released for a few hours now for desktop computers and smartphones, bringing various additions and changes.

First, one of the most important new features is the Secure Payment Confirmation (SPC) that has now been added to the Android version of the browser. It is a new web standard proposed by Google to make online transactions easier. In particular, when someone shops online from their mobile phone, they will not need to add their card details every time and go through multiple confirmation windows. On the contrary, if supported by the bank and the payment system, he will be able to press a button and pay directly on his mobile, simply by confirming his identity through the fingerprint sensor of his device.

The second new feature is Material You Theming for desktops. Now users can customize their experience more easily and directly than ever, since by changing the background image on the new tab, the browser will be transformed with the corresponding colors. Of course, in order to use the feature, it still needs to be activated manually through the flag ‘chrome://flags/#customize-chrome-color-extraction’.

Version 109 also includes various changes for developers, while it will be the last update for Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 . Chrome will stop supporting these features from version 110 onwards.
