Blizzard: “Diablo IV will not be pay-to-win”

New information about the new chapter of the franchise

Blizzard released a lot of new information about Diablo IV on its official site . According to the game director, players will not be able to spend real money to upgrade their character’s abilities. Joe Shely introduced the features of the live-service model, notably Seasons, in which players start from scratch with a new character.

His statements are as follows:

To play the new season, you’ll create a new character and experience the new seasonal features and content while leveling up alongside other players. This, along with Paragon points, will ensure that your effort and skill will determine how powerful your character becomes. So you won’t be able to pay to gain “more power” in Diablo IV.

Associate game director Joe Piepiora later stated the following:

Completing missions in “Season Journey” will also level up your Season Pass. This is a new feature that will bring your progress along with the Season Journey, allowing you to earn more rewards just by playing the game.

The Season Pass will offer free items, cosmetics, premium currency and boosts, as well as paid rewards, but only for cosmetics and premium currency.
