Sony is betting big on PlayStation VR2 – Here are its production plans

New information

Apparently, Sony is very ambitious about the course of the PlayStation VR2 in the market, with Bloomberg revealing through a new report some very interesting information.

Specifically, it is reported that the mass production of the virtual reality headset started in September and so far there is no problem or limitation, according to people who know what is going on behind the scenes and asked not to be named. The impressive thing about the case is found in the number of headsets that Sony plans to produce.

More specifically, the Japanese giant wants to manufacture 2 million PlayStation VR2s by March next year . This means that Sony is very ambitious for sales, considering that in a few months they will cross the million barrier. Of course, the number of headsets that will be manufactured may change depending on the course of the accessory when it becomes available on the market.

At this point it is worth mentioning that the first PS4 PlayStation VR took over half a year, eight months to be exact, to reach one million sales. Overall, the VR market still has a lot to prove, as even the proposals of HTC, Oculus (now Meta) and Valve have not managed to experience real mainstream success. The most popular headset released to date is Meta’s Quest 2, which sold 2.8 million in its first quarter of market availability.

Speaking about this, the Kantan Games analyst from Tokyo emphasized:

The key to success is the quality of games that Sony will be able to develop. The other crucial point will be the price. In terms of specs, the PSVR2 is a monster and some users are already expecting it to cost as much as a PS5.

For the moment, Sony has not yet revealed the official price, nor the release date of the PS VR2. All we know is that it will arrive at the beginning of 2023. In fact, then the supply chain that has made the availability of the PlayStation 5 so difficult in recent years is expected to finally be relieved, according to Bloomberg’s sources. This is expected to give the company the security it needs to start a big promotional campaign, while the course of the PS VR2 certainly depends on the immediate availability of the PS5, since the headset cannot work without it.
