Has your Instagram been hacked? You can now restore your account

New platform feature to help users

Instagram is introducing new features for user security, and one of them is intended to help those who have had their accounts hacked. If the user no longer has access to their account, they can visit the new hub where they will be asked if the incident is a compromised account, if you simply forgot your password, if it is an impersonation incident, if you have lost your two-step authentication method, or if your account has been disabled. Once you select one of them, it will guide you through a series of steps to recover your account.

So if you get locked out of your account, you can ask two of your Instagram friends to confirm your identity. Your friends will have 24 hours to reply on Instagram and if they confirm it’s you, Instagram will reset your password.

Instagram is testing other measures to prevent your account from being hacked in the first place. Removes accounts that appear malicious, such as those impersonating someone else. The test works by sending a notification to the real user when someone suspected of impersonation follows you.

Additionally, you’ll start seeing the blue tick of verified accounts in more places beyond the profile, such as in Stories and DMs.
