Qualcomm brings satellite connectivity to Android better than Apple
Not just for emergency features
Apple brought emergency satellite connectivity to the iPhone 14 in the fall, and now at CES 2023, Qualcomm has unveiled Snapdragon Satellite for two-way communication between Android devices. In partnership with Iridium, which has 66 low-orbit satellites, Qualcomm will enable two-way communication between devices, but not just for emergencies, but also for SMS and “ other messaging applications ”.
As Qualcomm emphasizes, the Snapdragon Satellite, unlike Apple’s system, will not only be for emergencies where there is no cellular signal, but also for entertainment purposes in remote, rural and isolated locations.

The new system will be supported by devices that have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, while the support can be extended to other devices such as laptops, tablets, cars and IoT products.
Garmin will work with Qualcomm to support emergency messaging on its devices.
