AMD Ryzen 9 7950X broke overclocking record with single AIO cooler

Not one, not two, but four records in total!

AMD ‘s new generation of processors is expected to hit store shelves on September 27, but it has already managed to break records. In particular, AMD is working with various well-known extreme overclockers to push the Ryzen 7000 models to their limits and show what the brand new Zen 4 architecture is capable of .

Somehow, that’s how a group of overclockers used the Ryzen 9 7950X to break numerous records. Going into details, the group managed to break four overclocking records and the icing on the cake is that it didn’t use liquid nitrogen or some other exotic cooling solution, just a simple commercial AIO 280mm water cooling.

As for the records, the first of them was achieved in the well-known Cinebench R23 software. In particular, the Ryzen 9 7950X scored 40,498 points, beating the previous record of 40,412 points of the Core i9-12900KS. AMD’s processor was overclocked to 5.4GHz on all 16 cores, while Intel’s offering had to be overclocked to 7GHz with liquid nitrogen to achieve the aforementioned score. Of course, the difference in score may be small, but the fact that corresponding results were achieved with 23% less frequency, shows how effective the new Zen 4 architecture is.

Moving on, the next record goes to Cinebench R20, with the Ryzen 9 7950X officially being the benchmark’s fastest 16-core chip, surpassing the Ryzen 9 5950X’s previous record. Similarly, the processor also conquered the throne of Cinebench R15, where with 5.5GHz in all cores it scored 6,900 points, again surpassing the Ryzen 9 5950X, which held the previous record, with a frequency of 6GHz and liquid nitrogen cooling.

The last record broken by the overclocking team is on 7-Zip. There the Ryzen 9 7950X stayed at 5.45 GHz across all cores, managing to score 228,922 points, beating the Ryzen 9 5950X’s record by 4.4%.
