Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – Sweeping start at the box office for the new MCU film

November record in US with over $180M in first SC

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever made a triumphant start at the box office , ending a box office drought and knocking DC’s ” Black Adam ” off the top.

The long-awaited sequel to Black Panther and the newest film in the MCU has destroyed everything in its path, scoring more than $180 million at the US box office, just from its first screenings. At the same time, it broke the record held by ” The Hunger Games: Catching Fire ” from 2013 to become the highest-grossing film in history for the month of November.

Having been screened in over 55 countries worldwide, the Ryan Coogler-directed Black Panther 2 has collected a total of over $330 million at the box office , with its trajectory looking positive for the coming weeks.

But will it reach its predecessor, which in 2018 brought in over $1.4 billion worldwide ? There are two influencing factors. The first due to the conditions with the Russia-Ukraine war, where the film loses the Russian market, since Marvel Studios maintains its embargo . Another factor that harms its overall course is the fact that it will not be shown even in China – the largest market on the planet – which used to be a barometer at the box office. Unfortunately in recent times China has become an inaccessible market for any Hollywood film, mainly for censorship reasons.
