Red Dead Redemption 2 just hit a new huge sales milestone!

One of the most successful games of all time

Take -Two Interactive , publisher of Red Dead Redemption 2 , has announced that the beloved and award-winning open-world game has now sold over 50 million units since its initial release. The announcement was made as part of the disclosure of the company’s financial results for the third quarter, which ended on December 31, 2022.

According to Take-Two, Red Dead Redemption 2, the third addition to the franchise, but being a prequel to Red Dead Redemption, exceeded the company’s expectations and achieved impressive sales during the quarter in question , thanks to “successful promotions and events of the festive season”. For the record, the game had been a huge success since its first release in 2018, raking in $725 million in sales from its very first weekend. It then went on to surpass the total sales of Red Dead Redemption in just two weeks.

Notably, the new milestone was achieved even though the multiplayer part of the game, Red Dead Online, received its last major update, “Blood Money”, in July 2021. Finally, Rockstar Games announced in July 2022 that does not plan to release any more major updates to the game as it shifts all of its resources to the development of Grand Theft Auto 6. However, Red Dead Redemption 2 has continued to receive minor updates throughout 2022, including the addition of three new Hardcore Telegram missions on September 6th, new Halloween content and a new Hardcore Telegram mission on October 18th.

Of course, the elusive – for many titles – milestone of 50 million sales cements Red Dead Redemption 2’s position as one of the best-selling games of all time , with the IP being one of the most important in Take-Two’s line-up.
