Over 11,000 scientists declare a climate emergency
Over 11,000 scientists from 153 countries around the world signed the paper declaring a climate emergency and published it in Bioscience .
Scientists say climate change is happening at a faster rate than we had calculated, ” threatening natural ecosystems and the fate of humanity .” In spite of the agreements in the words, they argue that states have taken minimal steps to prevent us from reaching an irreversible situation. ” They continue their work as usual ” despite the scientific consensus that fossil fuels are bad for the environment.
The study does not focus on global temperatures, but draws attention to other factors such as population growth, meat consumption, energy consumption and annual economic losses due to extreme weather conditions. They propose a six-axis approach. Replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy sources, reducing pollutants that accelerate atmospheric heating, restoring forests, changing eating habits by avoiding meat, controlling the global population and radically changing the economy.
