Thessaloniki: Two new Hollywood films are being shot in Central Macedonia
Red Sonja is already filming and preparations are underway for Dirty Angels
Thessaloniki will once again become a filming location for Hollywood films in 2022 , since Central Macedonia has now become a pole of attraction for large and medium-sized producers. Suffice it to mention ” Tin Soldier “ with Robert De Niro, Scott Eastwood and Jamie Foxx, ” The Bricklayer ” with Nina Dobrev and Aaron Eckhart, ” The Enforcer ” with Antonio Banderas and ” Expendables 4 “ with Jason Statham.
Specifically it is two productions, with the first, the remake of “Red Sonja” already shot since October, but continues post-production here as it requires high-end special effects that Nu Boyana studios can provide. It stars Matilda Lutz and Robert Sheehan of the “Umbrella Academy” series.
The second is a much larger production and is called “Dir t y Angels ” in which Eva Green ( Penny Dreadful, Casino Royale ) will star.
A few words about the two films
Red Sonja Remake
The film Red Sonja is based on the comic book character of the same name, originally developed for Marvel in 1973. The first film about this iconic superheroine was made in 1985 starring Brigitte Nielsen in the title role and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The direction is signed by MJ Bassett , while Red Sonja is embodied by Matilda Lutz. Part of the Millennium Media production was filmed at Nu Boyana Hellenic Film Studios in Thermi at the end of October.
It also stars Wallis Day (Batwoman, Sex/Life ) and Robert Sheehan who you’ll know from his role in Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy .
The editing process has already started, while for the post production (visual effects, sound mixing, color correction), which will take place mainly in Thessaloniki, Greek professionals will also be employed. It should be noted that due to the specificity of the film that relies heavily on digital processing, the post production process will last for a period of four to six months.
Dirty Angels
Synopsis: The film takes place in modern Afghanistan on the eve of the departure of the US Armed Forces. It follows the story of an all-female US Army unit as it faces Taliban and ISIS forces and tries to free its fellow fighters from captivity, as well as Afghan civilians caught in the crossfire between ISIS and the Taliban. The film will be shot in Morocco and Thessaloniki.
Filming in Thessaloniki, which will begin in the first ten days of December and will last approximately three months , will take place in various areas, such as Peraia, Asvestochori and western Thessaloniki. The film’s budget is estimated at around 35 million euros , while it is estimated that around 250 Greeks will be employed in various jobs, including actors.
